Use case

Clean your Downloads folder on Windows

Installers, zip extracts, chat attachments, and half-finished browser saves pile up fast. This workflow triages clutter, fixes broken files, automates routing, and keeps mistakes reversible, without treating your library like system temp.

Workflow

Four steps to a cleaner Downloads folder

01

Triage Downloads in the browser

Run the junk file finder on %USERPROFILE%\Downloads. Spot zero-byte files, empty folders, temp leftovers, and duplicate-download noise without deleting anything.

Browser scans stay local. Use this pass to decide whether Downloads needs a one-time cleanup or ongoing automation.

02

Integrity pass on the desktop

Use Junk & Corrupt Finder for broken shortcuts, corrupt images, and unreachable network targets. Preview each category before apply. Default to Recycle Bin.

Zero-byte files are not always safe to remove. Sometimes they are failed writes you should retry from source.

03

Automate routing with Auto-Pilot

Add a watcher on Downloads. Route PDFs, images, and archives with extension or name rules. Move first, delete later. Use a stable-match delay so half-written browser saves are not processed early.

Review the activity feed weekly. Automation is fast, not infallible.

04

Handle repeat offenders

Re-run a junk scan after big download sessions. Optional duplicate scan for repeated installers and zip extracts. Pair with disk usage triage when Downloads is not the only space hog.

CCleaner-style sweepers handle system temp and browser cache. This workflow covers the files you actually downloaded.
