Dupe Zappa is an independent, local-first Windows desktop toolkit engineered by MerginIT e.U. to help power users, creators, and professionals reclaim disk space, organize massive file libraries, and eliminate duplicate files safely without adware, cloud telemetry, or recurring subscription fees.
Why Dupe Zappa Was Created
Disk cleanup and deduplication software on Windows has suffered from two extremes for over a decade. On one hand, legacy tools have become bloated with aggressive upsells, bundled adware, continuous background telemetry, and predatory recurring subscription billing. On the other hand, classic utilities often feature intimidating, retro user interfaces that offer no safety guarantees, no dry-run diffs, and no way to undo an accidental bulk deletion.
We built Dupe Zappa to offer a modern, safe alternative. It pairs a screamingly fast native Go scanning engine with an intuitive desktop interface designed around one uncompromising principle: you must always know what will happen before a single file is moved, renamed, or deleted, and you must always be able to undo it.
Our Core Engineering Principles
- 100% Local-First & Private: File inspection, cryptographic hashing (xxHash64 and SHA-256), perceptual image hashing, and AI Tidy suggestions run entirely on your local machine. No file contents, filenames, folder trees, or user telemetry are ever uploaded to external cloud servers.
- Safety & Reversible Operations: Every batch rename, deduplication sweep, or AI tidy classification presents a side-by-side preview before execution. Deleted files are routed to the Windows Recycle Bin by default, and every operation is written to a local transactional history log with one-click undo support.
- Fair, Transparent Ownership: We reject monthly SaaS subscriptions for desktop utility software. Dupe Zappa is available as a simple, perpetual license for €9.99 with no renewals, no ads, and no artificial feature gates.
